DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: We are beginning a new series on the book of Acts. What kind of perceptions do you have about this book and in what ways may some be intimidated or apprehensive?

Digging Deeper:

  1. The author refers to a “first book” (v. 1); what was the first book about? What does this passage suggest the second book will be about?
  2. Luke writes to Theophilus, described as “most excellent” in the first book, and most likely a Roman official. Luke was attempting to win a hearing for Christian faith in government. How do we win a hearing for Christian faith in the public arena?
  3. The Holy Spirit is an important person in this volume; Jesus will continue His work through the Holy Spirit. Where do you see evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life, in Aspen Ridge and in our community?
  4. What does it mean to be an apostle? In what way is an apostle unique to the early church, and in what way is there secondary application to all?

Taking it Home: Henry Blackaby, in Experiencing God, says, “Pray and thank the Lord that He is the One working. Begin now to focus on a love relationship with Jesus. More than you doing, He wants you to love Him. Then watch and listen for Him to reveal an assignment for your life. Trust Him to work through you to accomplish it.”

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Pastor Jeff will meet you at the Welcome Center, where you can also receive a special gift when you turn in a Communication Card.

DV8 MIDDLE SCHOOL WINTER CAMP REMINDER

February 11 is the deadline to get money in or talk to Pastor Kreg about middle school camp, happening March 2-4. Be sure to grab a flyer from the student center or email Pastor Kreg with questions.

THE GOD WHO IS THERE

Most people do not have a basic working knowledge of the Bible. How can we understand the story of God—and our part in it—when we’re not familiar with it? In this basic introduction to faith, D.A. Carson takes you through the big story of Scripture to help you know what you believe and why you believe it. Pastor Jeff and Dan Dube are hosting this course on Wednesday nights (6:30 – 7:50 PM). All are welcome.

PRAYER INVITATION

Join us for prayer on Sunday mornings, downstairs in the Fireside Room, from 10:15 - 10:40 AM. This is a special time to pray for our weekend services and the advance of the gospel. There is also a student-led group meeting during this time; please see Pastor Kreg for details.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER

Dinner is served at 5:30 PM on Wednesday nights for anyone in our community that would like to attend. This week, our menu includes baked chicken, green beans, corn, salad and dessert for $2.50/person or $10/family.
