The Height of Faith – Heaven
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
The Big Idea: The heavenly high priest is better than an earthly high priest.
- Our heavenly high priest has a superior seat.
- Our heavenly high priest has a superior reality.
- Our heavenly high priest has a superior covenant.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: What are your ideas about heaven? How have you arrived at these ideas?
- Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father. “God in Christ” appears to be the central focus of heaven. The Apostle Paul exhorts people of faith to seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1-4). How do you set your mind on things above?
- The idea behind verses 3-5 in Chapter 8 is that the Israelite tent instituted for the worship of God is only a shadow or copy of the heavenly realities. This material world is real, but it is less real than heaven. If indeed heaven is more real than this life, how do we live our lives for heaven?
- What is your understanding of the differences between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant? What are the features of the New Covenant and on what basis is it better than the old? Use the balance of Hebrews 8 to find the answers.
Taking it Home: We want to prepare for our true identification with heaven and advance the gospel as the only means of gaining heaven. This fall a small group will be established for the training of how to live and share the gospel. It will be entitled, “How to Be a Contagious Christian.” Reserve your spot today by sending an email to the church office.
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Pastor Jeff will meet you at the Welcome Center. We also have a special gift for you at the Welcome Center when you turn in your Communication Card from the bulletin.

provided by the church; please bring a side dish or dessert to share. At 6:30 PM, a concert will follow from our friend, Danny Byram. Please brings chairs and blankets to settle in and enjoy the music. Mark your calendar to join us for this refreshing night!
CONGREGATIONAL BUSINESS MEETING VOTE
Our business meeting was held last Sunday, and the vote to accept the Elder’s proposal from the Properties Ministry Team was unanimous. The motion was as follows: “The Elders move that we accept the recommendation of the Properties Ministry Team to replace the deteriorating wood siding of the church building with new low maintenance stucco, fiber cement and stone siding materials. Additionally, that we authorize the Church Treasurer to secure a loan, not to exceed $250,000 to finance the project.” Work is scheduled to begin mid-July and to be complete by the end of August, weather permitting. Please continue to pray for God’s blessing on this project.
