The Height of Faith – Jesus’ Higher Authority
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
The Big Idea: Jesus fulfills God’s design for human beings in the world to come.
God’s original intention for human beings.
God’s intention stalled with human beings.
Humans’ dominion twisted
God’s ultimate intention is achieved in Jesus.
Jesus’ final victory
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: For what purposes do you see most people living? How do you understand your life purpose?
- In Psalm 8, David says something about God’s intentions for human beings on earth. Describe these intentions as they relate to the position, honor and authority of human life on earth.
- Only a few short chapters after God’s creation, we read about the fall of human beings (Genesis 3). In Hebrews 2:8, this is described as “not seeing everything in subjection to Him (God the Son).” Discuss.
- In Jesus, we see a restoration of God’s intention for all human beings. This has been realized in His incarnation, death and exaltation. It will be realized in His future rule over the world to come. Where do you see this restoration in your own life?
Taking it Home: “Kingdom” is the most prominent of all themes in the Bible, and a good many Christian leaders see God’s purpose for human beings as overthrowing the kingdom of evil. Discuss with a friend in your small group how you may be used to that end this week.
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he will meet you at the Welcome Center.
