The Height of Faith - Jesus’ Higher Work
BIG IDEA: God has indeed spoken, and we had better listen up.
I. God speaks (2:1, 1:1): four assumptions
A. God is ________________________.
B. God intends to _________________________.
C. God must _________________________.
D. God has acted in ways that _________________________.
II. God speaks warningly (2:1-4)
A. Warning: Don’t _______________!
B. Reasons for the warning
1. Jesus is _______________.
2. Judgment is _______________.
3. The Gospel is _______________.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: Like Bobby Fischer, Greta Garbo or Howard Hughes, have you been in situations when you steadfastly refused to reveal things about yourself? What reasons were behind your desire to withhold self revelation?
- What could we know about God apart from what He has revealed to humans? Do you think that God has revealed everything there is to know about Himself? Why?
- Why do you think that God has chosen to self-reveal certain information about Himself?
- The writer warns of “drift” should we hearers not pay close enough attention “to what we have heard” (2:1). Does this possibility of “drift” apply to Christians? If so, what could “drift” look like for you?
- If there is no escape from neglecting “such a great salvation (2:3),” what information is absolutely, critically, uncompromisingly essential and at the heart of that “great salvation?” In other words, what is the minimal information necessary to believe and accept that “great salvation?”
