Lend Me Your Hope - Hope Beyond Extremism
1 Peter 4:7-11
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: How does the imminent return of Christ shape our lives?
- It shapes our attentiveness, v. 7.
- It shapes our affections, v. 8.
- It shapes our attitude, v. 9.
- It shapes our actions, v. 10.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: According to George Barna, in the United States, more than 20 million people have determined that they can have a vital relationship with Jesus without belonging or contributing their gifts and resources to the Church. Discuss.
- Name 3-4 things that demonstrate a Christian to be “self-controlled and sober-minded.” What are some thoughts that you have to take captive to be described this way?
- What does it mean for love to cover a multitude of sins? Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. How would you rate your love for fellow Christians?
- What does it say about a person when they offer hospitality and grumble?
- What is your spiritual gift(s)? Is your gift among the speaking or the serving gifts? How are you using it to benefit Jesus’ Church and the Church to benefit you?
Taking it Home: Last week was Commitment Weekend for our Live It Out Series. How is God leading you toward service in the coming year of ministry…and toward generosity? Pray about this and discuss with your spouse or family members. Make a commitment to God this week.
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he and his wife, Mary, will meet you at the Welcome Center.
LIVE IT OUT: THERE’S STILL TIME
Last weekend, we celebrated our commitments to live it out in generosity and service. If you were unable to join us—or if you were still considering your part in our vision—you still have time to respond.
Please complete your response envelope and place it in the offering. Extra envelopes are available at the Welcome Center and in the media stands. Or, you may give in generosity and service on our website.
PRAYER TIME AND EXCITING NEW INITIATIVE
We appreciate everyone who has been a part of the prayer time between services for the past two months. We are looking at the best way to provide this important time with a more optimal location and with leadership to make it as effective as possible. We are also extremely excited about a new "Question and Answer" forum that we will begin starting the weekend of June 11/12. It will be a chance to expand our discussion of the weekend message and hear insights from Pastor Jeff in a more casual, interactive setting. Please keep an eye out for more details on both the prayer time and the new "Q&A" time!
Aspen Ridge will have a Baptism Weekend on May 14/15. If you have made a faith commitment to Jesus Christ and would like to explore participating in this ordinance, please contact pastoral staff by May 8.
We are accepting nominations through May 8 for candidates to be considered to join the Elder Board. Forms are available in the church office. Contact an elder with any questions you may have.
SAVE THE DATE FOR VBS!
Please be in prayer about getting involved in Vacation Bible School this year, and make sure that June 20-24 is marked on your calendar. We’re taking it back to God’s Word with “Retro Rock,” featuring the music of Go Fish.
