Tell Me the Story – Mary & Elizabeth
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
The Big Idea: Tell the story of the women who gave birth to Christianity.
- Tell the story of Mary & Elizabeth.
- Tell the story of Mary’s greeting.
- Tell the story of Mary’s blessing.
- Tell the story of Mary’s song.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: There is a unique kind of fellowship between and among women in the Christian way. Describe.
- What happens when Mary visits her relative Elizabeth? Why do you think that Luke includes this description of that visit? What is the significance of Elizabeth’s statement (v 43)?
- In Luke 1:15, the angel indicates that Elizabeth’s child would be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. What does this passage (alongside our immediate passage) say about conceived but as-yet-unborn life?
- How ought the Christian church carry moral and ethical convictions forward in a gracious and assertive way that can be redemptive and winsome in our culture?
Taking it Home: It is interesting to note that having a pregnancy as an unwed mother is not necessarily a sin. How can the church come alongside unwed mothers with grace and support, in a way that celebrates life as a gift from God?
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he will meet you at the Welcome Center.
This weekend, we are pleased to recommend Roger and Nancy Bell for membership with Aspen Ridge Church. Welcome today to Roger and Nancy! If you are interested in taking the step of church membership, you begin the conversation by contacting the church office. Further, a six-week “Bridge” small group will be offered in January for those that may be interested in learning more about growing and serving.
STUDENT MINISTRY SEARCH
We are pleased to share that our search for a new Director of Student Ministries has been making steady progress. This team has been assembled by Ron Kilgore, appointed by our elder board. You may forward questions directly to Ron Kilgore at 303.881.4348 or email@example.com.
STAFF APPRECIATION: A NOTE FROM THE ELDER TEAM
As 2016 comes to a close, we reflect on the past year of ministry at Aspen Ridge Church, and we desire to remember those who unselfishly serve us week in and week out. We will be collecting a love offering during these last weeks of December and then will present a gift to the staff as an expression of our appreciation. Please note “Staff Gift” on your check and place it in the offering by December 25. Thank you.
RING THE BELL FOR YOUR COMMUNITY
Help support your 285-corridor mountain neighbors through the Salvation Army by ringing the bell at King Soopers, through December 24. You can request sign-up information by calling Angela Bassano at 303.838.6755 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. This is a great way to celebrate the spirit of Christmas while serving our community!
LIVE IT OUT
Thanks to all who are contributing to Live It Out as we intentionally reach out to our community in practical and loving ways. To contribute, note “Live It Out” on or with your gift.
Gifts (pledged and unpledged) received to date: $ 57,189
Remaining pledged amount: $ 68,327
Christmas Eve services will be held at 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM this year. We would love to celebrate this special time with old and new friends, rejoicing in the birth of Jesus and “telling the story.” Also, please note that on Christmas morning we will have one Family Christmas Celebration beginning at 10:00 AM, and all children are invited to attend with their families. Kids can even come in their pajamas!
DV8 CHRISTMAS PARTY
DV8’s White Elephant Christmas Party will be held during student ministry times on December 14 for middle school and December 15 for high school. We would appreciate if parents could supply Christmas refreshments for these events. Please let Marty know if you can help in this way. Students need to bring a wrapped white elephant gift to be exchanged (funny, gag-type gifts - nothing serious or of monetary value).
UPCOMING BAPTISM WEEKEND
Our next Baptism Weekend is scheduled for January 7/8. If you are interested in participating, please contact the church office to sign up for an orientation meeting with Pastor Jeff. These meetings are offered for your convenience on December 18 at 8:00 AM, December 31 at 5:00 PM or January 3 at 3:00 PM, and you only need to attend one of them.
MINISTRY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: LIFE’S OPTIONS
