Tell Me the Story – A Childless Couple Conceives
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
The Big Idea: God uses means to prepare the way for Jesus.
- God uses providential means.
- God uses supernatural means.
- God uses prophetic means.
- God uses natural means.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: God uses means in the account of Zechariah & Elizabeth to point toward John the Baptist and, ultimately, Jesus. What means has God used, in a providential way, to point you toward Jesus?
1) From vs 5-13, note a handful of things about Zechariah and Elizabeth, and describe ways you can relate to them.
2) What specifically does the angel foretell about the son Elizabeth will bear Zechariah? On what facts does Zechariah base his response to the angel’s message?
3) What does Zechariah’s question (v 18) suggest about his confidence in the angel’s reliability? How is his question answered (vs 19-25)?
4) Why do we find the promises of God difficult to believe? Why and how do we limit God to our own resources?
Taking it Home: In the weeks leading up to Christmas, pray regularly for your neighbors. Begin thinking about what kind of simple gift could be given and about having them in your home. Ask the Lord for guidance on extending an invitation to a Christmas weekend gathering.
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he will meet you at the Welcome Center.

“TELL ME THE ADVENT STORY”
The Sheffer small group is inviting families to celebrate Advent this Christmas season by picking up a starter kit, available in the lobby this weekend. Advent is a way to prepare for the celebration of Christ’s life, ministry and death, typically celebrated the four Sundays before
Christmas. They are also asking us to extend this invitation to our neighbors and friends by picking up extra kits to give out!
Our Christmas Eve services will be held at 3:00 and 4:30 PM this year. We would love to celebrate this special time with old and new friends, rejoicing in the birth of Jesus and “telling the story.” Also, please note that on Christmas morning we will have one Family Christmas
Celebration beginning at 10:00 AM, and all children are invited to attend with their families.
