Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: Remember the season when you were new in Christ. Describe some of the former ways that you were freed from.
- Peter urges us not to return to our former ways in verse 14. As time goes by, why is it that we may struggle with some of these former ways?
- In verse 13, Peter instructs us to “be sober-minded” and “to prepare our minds for action.” What are some disciplines that help us with this? What are some activities that hinder this?
- In what ways would your neighbor be able to declare that you are holy/different/set apart from the world?
- What is your greatest motivation to “be holy in your conduct” as you grow in Christ? (vs.15)
Taking it Home: In Luke 12:35-36, Jesus asks us to stay “dressed for action” and to “keep our lamps burning” in anticipation of the Master’s return. Where is God nudging you to be better prepared and more alert in anticipation of His return?
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Norm will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he and his wife, Kathy will meet you at the Welcome Center.
SERVICES AND SERVING
As you probably know, you can now join us on Saturdays at 6:00 PM or on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM or 10:45 AM. We see this additional worship service as one way to realize our dream that everyone in our community would experience God’s love through the people who make up Aspen Ridge Church. We are encouraging our people to worship in one hour and serve in another. If you are interested in plugging into ministry within our body, please drop a Communication Card into the offering bag, and we’d be happy to help direct you in an area where your giftings and desires align with needs.
CONVERGE: LEADERSHIP DEEP DIVES 2016
PLEASE NOTE - The Converge Leadership Deep Dive seminar scheduled for January 21, 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM in partnership with Aspen Ridge Church has been postponed. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Please watch for details on when this seminar will be rescheduled. If you registered and paid for lunch, details will be provided by Converge on your refund.
As we continue to pursue growth and community within small groups, and with the new service times, we will be concluding our meetings of The Gathering, as of January 31. We encourage you to check out some of the groups that are meeting in the building during this time, or visit our website for a complete listing of available small groups. Thank you to Andy Betsch for all of the great topics and speakers over the course of these gatherings!
Our church library is a great place to visit! This month, we are featuring the book by Chuck Swindoll – “Hope Again” as it relates to our current sermon series. You will find it on our presentation shelf right inside the door. Check it out if you are interested!
Are you new to Aspen Ridge Church? Do you have questions about ministries and where you may fit in? There’s a new session of “The Bridge” starting this weekend. Karl Atkinson will be hosting this small group and would love to meet you. This group meets at 10:45 AM in the Prayer Room (just beyond the office), and there’s still plenty of time to get involved. You can request more information by dropping the Communication Card from this bulletin into the offering bag.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT MENU
Please join us for chicken stir fry, salad and dessert. All of this for $2.50 per person or $10 per family, plus fun and fellowship!
NOT ENOUGH COOKS IN THE KITCHEN!
Do you excel at meal planning or have a flair for food? Do you want to get involved in a thriving ministry that serves over a hundred people each week? We’re looking for a few more energetic people to join the Wednesday Night Dinner Cook Teams! Please call or text Maria Stimens at 407.844.6168 to discuss this opportunity.
STIRRING THE POTS…
We are also looking for new Men's Breakfast cooks! Men’s Breakfast occurs the second Saturday morning of every month, and you would be scheduled one or two times during the year. This is a great time of fellowship and study, and the food adds a special touch! Please talk to Mike Kelly or Pastor Jeff for more information.
WAR ROOM MOVIE NIGHT
Invite a friend and join us on Friday evening, February 5, for a free showing of the movie, “War Room.” Doors open at 6:30 PM and the movie will begin at 7:00 PM. Childcare will be provided for 5th grade and under, and donations will be accepted for this service. Refreshments will also be available for purchase and proceeds will benefit our DV8 Student Ministry. The power of prayer in our lives and marriages is amazing, and this movie illustrates just that!
