MESSAGE NOTES

DV8 Student Ministry Weekend
Romans 12:2
Hunter Headley

The Big Idea: Students today face pressures and problems that are unlike anything in previous generations. However, Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” How can we as a church support the upcoming generations in this endeavor?

  • Romans 12:2 tells us…
  • Our seniors tell us…
  • God tell us…

Please pray for our 40+ high school students and leaders who are attending Christ In Youth (CIY) “Move” in Durango this June. Be on the lookout for student sponsorship opportunities coming in May. If you know of a student who might be interested, please contact Hunter Headley at the church office.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: The years of middle school and high school are formative in life. What kind of experience do/did you have with faith in these years? What are some of the moments that defined who you were and are and that are still shaping you today?

Digging Deeper:

  1. Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but instead be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” What are some ways that you think life is different for teens today than it was for previous generations?
  2. What are some ways that you can support children and teens in their effort to “not be conformed to the patterns of this world?” How can the church train students to be more Christ-like?
  3. We heard a number of stories from our students about how God has become personal and real in their lives. Which stories meant the most to you? Why?

Taking It Home: Identify a handful of people in your circle of relationships who may still be on the way toward the kingdom of God. Begin praying for them and for an opportunity to invite them to our Easter services (Saturday 6:00 PM; Sunday 9:00 AM & 10:30 AM).

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

We would like to welcome Hunter Headley and our DV8 seniors as our speakers this weekend. Hunter is our Director of Student Ministries for middle school and high school. If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you and invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Hunter will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he and his wife, Lauren will meet you at the Welcome Center in the entryway.

THE FAMILY TABLE

Many families gather around a table when there are important decisions to be made. It’s time for our “family table!” Members and regular attenders are encouraged to bring a main dish and side or dessert (cooked, cut and ready to serve) to share. Join us as we vote on the proposed changes to our Statement of Faith. We’ll be gathering for this business meeting on March 15, after services. Come to the table!

CPR TRAINING CLASS

CPR Colorado and Aspen Ridge Church are partnering together to offer this CPR training on Saturday, March 14, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. The cost is $30 per person, and this training is open to any who might be interested. Please contact Debbie Stewart at 303.902.5020 with any questions or to register.

A BIT OF CHURCH INFORMATION

Aspen Ridge Church is a part of a regional movement of churches called Converge Rocky Mountain. This movement of churches provides support, encouragement, prayer, and ministry partnership for many and various gospel initiatives. Our district executive minister is Paul Mitton. If you would like to find out more about Converge Rocky Mountain, you may do so at ConvergeRockyMountain.org.

WOMEN OF FAITH THANKS YOU!

We no longer need plastic grocery bags to make waterproof mats for the homeless. What we need now are helpers to actually make these mats. If you have any interest in helping with this process, please call the church office.

EASTER SERVICES

During Easter weekend, we will see our numbers dramatically increase, as our community gathers with us to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Would you be interested in serving your neighbors by helping with our services? We need greeters, parking attendants, food assistance and more to make it all happen. Contact the church office!

THE GATHERING

During the month of March, at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall, we will see Dave Mathewson follow up on last year’s New Testament survey by hosting a three-month survey of the Old Testament. Join us as we see the Old Testament clearly reveal the character and identity of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. See how the Old and New Testaments have been woven together to provide a thought provoking picture of our Lord.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT MENU

We will be serving baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad and desserts for $2.50 per person with a max of $10 per family. Please join us for good food and fellowship!
