Words to Build a Life On – Get Mad, but Don’t Get Even!
The Big Idea: What do you value?
- What the Old Testament Law said, v. 38.
- What Jesus says, v. 38.
- Do you value your honor more than God’s kingdom, v. 39?
- Do you value your rights more than God’s kingdom, v. 40?
- Do you value your time and convenience more than God’s kingdom, v. 41?
- Do you value things more than God’s kingdom, v. 42?
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
- Why do you think we are so quick to “guard” our honor, rights, time and possessions?
- In what ways does our society foster “retaliation” in these areas (reacting when they are threatened)?
- How do you think Jesus’ instructions in these verses relate to other places in the New Testament where we are told to stand against evil (Ephesians 6:11; James 4:7)? Or calls to be wise with our finances and resources (should we give to everyone who asks us for anything)?
- In what ways have you been challenged to rethink what you value?
We would like to welcome one of our own, Dave Mathewson as our speaker today. If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you and invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Dave will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, Dave and his wife Joyce will meet you at the Welcome Center in the entryway.
Join us this weekend during our regular service times as we celebrate with those who have chosen to take the step of baptism. We rejoice with those who rejoice!
FAITH DAY AT THE ROCKIES – DEADLINE AUGUST 4
This year’s game features a concert by Jeremy Camp, as well as a message from Tony Dungy. Submit your payment of $16 to the church office to reserve your seat. The deadline to get tickets in our group section is August 4. Invite a neighbor, and join us for a great game and post-game show on August 24.
KEEPING NAME TAGS CURRENT
On a regular and rotating basis, we review and modify our name tag list to keep it current with our regular attendance. In this process, it is possible that we have made some errors. If this is the case, please contact the church office, and thank you for your patience.
LOST AND FOUND
Please take a moment to check the Lost and Found for any personal items you may have there. It is located downstairs next to the elevator. All items remaining will be donated after August 18.
PRECEPTS BIBLE STUDY
Our Saturday morning Precepts Class will start its next session on September 6 at 8:30 AM in the Book of Hebrews, Part 2. The first two classes are a review of Hebrews, Part 1 Chapters 1-4. Want to join in? Call Dottie Manchette at 303.697.9141 so a workbook can be ordered.
PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION WEEKEND - SEPTEMBER 20-21
As a church family, it is always an exciting time when we are able to stand behind parents as they commit to raising their children in Christ. If you are interested in being involved in our next Parent/Child Dedication weekend, please contact Pastor Jeff or the church office by the end of August.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Children's Progression Weekend, August 23 and 24! We celebrate the new school year commencing and kids graduating up to the next grade level in Children's Church! All children, age 2 through 5th grade will begin and end in the Kid Zone during church services. They will no longer be released from the Celebration Center. This change will ensure a secure check-in procedure for all the children and will give them more time for worship and Bible Lessons!
Do you know what's going on in your church? Did you know that we have ministry teams, which are constantly serving and sharing? Check out The Gathering during the month of August, where many of these teams will be highlighted and will be discussing their roles within the body. You may find that you'd like to get involved in what they are doing!
Our regular meetings for DV8 will begin with the school year on August 20 for middle school (Wednesdays) and August 21 for high school (Thursdays). Please join us at 6:30 PM and bring a friend! Connect with us on Facebook to stay up-to-date on current news and to see pictures from our summer of fun!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT COOK TEAMS
On August 10, after the morning service, there will be an appreciation meal and organizational meeting for the Wednesday night dinner cook teams. You are invited if you are interested in being on a cook team or have been on a cook team in the past. You can indicate your interest in this ministry on a communication card or by calling the church office. You can also just come and join us on August 10.
