Easter Weekend - Hollow
1 Corinthians 15:3-8
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: How can we know that Jesus Christ rose from the dead?
- First, this fulfills a prediction in the Bible.
- Second, Jesus appeared to Peter, then to the 12.
- Third, Jesus appeared to more than 500.
- Fourth, Jesus appeared to James, and all the apostles.
- Fifth, Jesus appeared to Paul.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: For most people in our culture today, Easter represents the spring season and a generic celebration of new life. However, this also makes Easter an especially “hollow” day or occasion. How have you seen this to be the case among those who are still on the way to Christian faith?
- The Apostle Paul says that without the bodily resurrection of Christ, our faith is hollow (1 Corinthians 15:17). Why is the bodily resurrection pivotal to the whole Christian faith?
- The Apostle Paul garners an impressive list of eyewitnesses to the resurrection account. Among these, which display of evidence is most compelling to you?
- When it comes to an assurance of one’s relationship with God, Pastor Jeff mentions one of two errors that people may fall into. Which of these errors are you more likely to slip toward? How is it best to understand Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 15:2?
Taking It Home: It’s time to go public with your faith. Jesus certainly went public in His commitment to you on the cross. Among the steps recommended including telling someone about your faith, getting baptized, affiliating with a local church, folding into a small group and serving. Which of these suggested applications need to find their way into your life this week?
If you are visiting today, we want to extend a special welcome to you and invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, Pastor Jeff and his wife Mary will meet you at the Welcome Center in the entryway.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER – MAY 1
In the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14, we encourage local churches to fast in the days leading up to the National Day of Prayer. Then on Thursday May 1, we are invited to The Place in downtown Evergreen to worship and pray for our nation throughout the day. We want to come as one united heart before our Father on that day. Aspen Ridge Church will also host a prayer gathering on May 1 at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship hall. Childcare will be provided. We invite all to gather for such a meeting. BAPTISM ORIENTATION Are you interested in being baptized? We will have two orientation meetings, one on May 3 at 5:00 PM and another on May 4 at 9:00 AM in Pastor Jeff’s office. We ask that you attend one of these meetings to participate. For more information, please contact the main office.
FREEZER MEAL PREP
The next date for this event will be Monday, May 5 at 9:00 AM. To participate, your payment and order must be received by April 21. Full details can be found on our website, or by contacting Michelle Schroeder at email@example.com.
A NEW PRAYER TEAM
If you have an interest in our Children’s Ministry, please join Shira Hamilton on Wednesday evenings right after dinner to pray. We are seeking wisdom and direction for this Ministry’s vitality and upgrades.
As we continue our six-week series that encourages us to use our God-given talents and abilities to serve, prayerfully consider where you may volunteer within the church. If you did not receive the packet associated with this series, they are still available in the church office.
THANK YOU FROM THE SHELPUK FAMILY
My family and I would like to thank The Aspen Ridge Church family for their prayer support during the passing of their mother and my wife, Kathy.
