Priceless - Distinguished Among Ten Thousand
Song of Solomon 5:10
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: What is it about Jesus that makes him priceless?
- First, His love for His covenant people.
- Second, His excellent and worthy qualities.
A modest response: this is my beloved and my friend
Realize you were designed to love God.
Investigate and explore Jesus’ love.
Linger over each detail.
Personalize this verse.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: MasterCard launched its "Priceless" advertising campaign some years ago. In the MasterCard ads, families gather together in separate episodes to enjoy sentimental pastimes while an announcer assigns monetary values to various activities before coming up with an activity that is "priceless." Identify some experiences in your life that you would call “priceless.”
- This book has been understood as illustrating Christ’s love for the church. Jesus is the groom, and the bride is not (at first) pictured as lovely. How does the love of the groom illustrate Christ’s love for His bride (Song of Solomon 1:8-11,15)?
- How does this passage (Song of Solomon 5:10-12) remind us of Christ’s purity, sovereignty and beauty? In what ways does this description make Him increasingly worthy of adoration in your life?
- One response is to say “this is my beloved and my friend.” When have you made this affirmation in your life? How are you growing in friendship with Jesus Christ?
Taking It Home: Maybe you find yourself drifting out of love with our Savior. Ask yourself, “Why do I not find myself attracted to Him? I will experiment. I will see what life would be like if I organize my thinking and behavior around the idea that Jesus passionately loves me.”
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you and invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he and his wife, Mary, will meet you at the Welcome Center in the entryway.
In December, we will feature Pastor Jeff in a fun, interesting and, at times, lighthearted look at the Christmas season. Join us at 9:00 AM on Sunday mornings in the Fellowship Hall.
This month’s Hymn Sing will feature our favorite Christmas carols. Please join us as we celebrate the season of the birth of Christ through song next Sunday, December 14 in the Celebration Center at 8:30 AM.
FULFILLING OUR MISSION
Our mission involves "inviting neighbors to find a home in Christ." However, we have a parking lot and Children's Ministry problem that is hampering our ability to fulfill our mission. We are prayerfully considering a proposed solution to the problem. You should have received a letter in the mail with further information and a request for your responses. We appreciate your prayers and welcome your thoughts, and we would love to hear from you.
The work to our playground area continues and we are seeing some exciting changes! Our next phase involves grading and the placing of the new safety surface material, followed by the fencing and then our grand opening. Please continue to pray for this process and for our Children’s Ministry.
This holiday season finds us making exciting upgrades to our facility. These upgrades are in the spirit of creating inviting spaces and taking good care of our campus. Included among these are a new playground ($13,000) and newly-carpeted Celebration Center ($45,000). As you consider your year-end giving, would you please consider a special gift to help fund these facility expenses, as well as our ongoing operating costs? If you would like to give online, feel free to do so from our website.
DV8 HOSTS DATE NIGHT
Date Night is a fundraiser for our DV8 students that will be attending
CIY (Christ In Youth) this summer. If you are a parent who needs a night out, drop your kids off at church for a few hours with us. From 6:00 – 9:00 PM on December 12, we will play games, watch a movie and have snacks available!
DV8 SHOE CUTTING CHRISTMAS PARTY
December 17 and 18 are the DV8 Christmas Parties for our Middle and High School groups. In culmination to our Advent Conspiracy study, we are hosting “Shoe Cutting” parties. You will need an old pair of jeans and $10 (for each pair) to participate. Please come and help us send these desperately needed items to the children of East Africa. If you are not involved in DV8, you are still invited to join us!
HOLIDAY MINISTRY SCHEDULES
Several of our regular events will have modified schedules for the holidays. If you are involved in any of our various groups outside of regular services, please contact your event lead to verify the December calendar for your group. We will also continue to update the online calendar as requests are made.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT MENU
Our menu this week is baked chicken, mashed potatoes, veggies, salad and desserts. We would love to see you there.
