DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What contrast do you see from the triumph of Palm Sunday to the events of Monday (the following day) as found in Mark 11?
  2. Why do you think Jesus cursed the fig tree? What did the fig tree represent? How did this relate to clearing the Temple (vs. 13-14, 20-21)? What was Jesus ultimately trying to communicate?
  3. What made Jesus angry? (See vs. 12-18 and Matthew 23:13-37). Why did the chief priests and teachers of the law begin to plot Jesus' death?
  4. It is easy for us to say, "Those people totally missed the point." But in what ways do we also miss the point? We hail Jesus as King on Sunday, and then Monday morning comes...If religious people made Jesus angry, in what ways must we remain vigilant, guarding against making the same mistakes? What are some implications for us as we begin Holy Week?
